• Question: What is your biggest challenge as an engineer?

      For me it’s trying to establish what a design needs to achieve. In school a teacher will say ‘do questions 1-5 for homework’ so you know exactly what you’re doing. In my job our briefs are a bit more vague, so you have to spend time digging around and talking to people before you really know how your equipment has to perform and therefore what work you need to do…!

      Making sure projects get completed on time, on budget and to the original requirements. Usually people I work with are not fully sure of what it is they actually want to do – it’s my job to help write a specification, and suggest new ways of doing what they want.
