You need to strike a balance that suits you – I have a pretty busy life outside of work so I’d say family (although as I have no children, I really mean ‘social life’)…

While my family is very important to me I’ve been using the time that I don’t have children of my own to get on as far with my career as possible. I’d like to have children in the future so it’s important to me that I get to a position where I have enough knowledge in my profession to be able to get back into it after a break. I’ve also been making sure I travel and do all the social things that will become harder once I start a family.

Family! They will always come first for me. But they are very understanding when I have to work away at other labs for a week at a time.
