A PhD in Engineering or Physics is quite fun. A lot of hard work but nothing more than what you would expect from an engineer on his day to day job. When you are doing the PhD you are a working engineer but the only difference is that at the end of your 3 year contract you have to write a thesis explaining everything that you have done in these three years. What makes it even more exciting it that the work that you have to report would most probably be something that nobody has done before, so you really feel you have accomplished a lot.
