Some engineers do, some don’t. I’ve been lucky – I’ve gone to Spain, New York, France on several occasions and through the sports society at work I went to Barbados.

Travelling can be overrated though – sometimes you get in a plane, then get in a taxi, then have a meeting, then go back to the airport in a taxi, then go home i.e. you’ve not really gone and explored the country – you may as well have been at home! I always try and take some annual leave if the company lets me go abroad so I can have a holiday too when I’m out there 🙂

I get to travel around the UK quite a lot. I have jobs in Bristol, Newcastle and Guilford at the moment and I will need to visit the constructions sites once a month once they start building. We bid for work all over including Ireland and Europe and we currently have a job in Malaysia although I’m not working on it personally so I won’t get to go 🙁 The best trip I got to go on was a conference in Australia where I got to stay in a really posh hotel for a week. .

I’m lucky – I do. USA, Japan, France, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Netherlands.
But, since I’m there for work, I actually have to do some work. Like Ben, I usually try to stay for an extra day or two to explore. Travelling is hard work, particularly when crossing many time zones (USA is 5 to 7 hours behind the UK, Japan about 9 hours ahead).
